Area III AB Women’s Ministries

Spring Rally Minutes

April 4, 2009

First Baptist Church East Peoria

The Area III AB Women’s Ministries Spring Rally was held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of East Peoria.  A delicious continental breakfast was served by the women from that church.

The Rally began with singing, followed by a welcome by Area III president Joan Leitzen and one by local president, Linda RicksKaren Taylor gave devotions by reading a poem “This Jesus of Calvary” and leading in prayer.

Karen Dainty and Carolyn Ihnken presented a skit encouraging attendance at the GRR Women’s Ministries Retreat, June 5 – 7 at Lake Williamson near Carlinville, Illinois. The GRR AB Girls will also be gathering there at the same time.  The National AB Women’s Ministries Conference will also be at Lake Williamson, July 25-31, 2009.

Joan Leitzen introduced past area presidents and Area III officers,  acknowledged local presidents, and introduced Nancy Johnson of El Paso who is the nominee for Coordinator of AB Girls on the Great Rivers Region Board.

Karen Dainty introduced Rachel West-Kramer whom we greeted with a big “WooHoo!”  Rachel sang some lovely and beautiful songs before she began her Bible Study.  She quoted many Bible verses and gave many examples of things to help us as we “Come to the Edge,” and are called to step out of our comfort zone and try something different.   Many of the verses spoke to “Be strong and courageous” and “Do not fear.”  She also asked us what we were doing with the dash (-) that is between our birthdate and the end of our earthly life.  It was a very encouraging and uplifting message she shared with us.

Following the tasty lunch served by the East Peoria women, we returned to the sanctuary and began the afternoon session with singing.  Joan Leitzen called the business meeting to order at 1:10 P.M.  Roll Call was taken and there were 31 women present from 8 churches.  The minutes were read and approved as printed.  The treasurer’s report was given and the 2009-2010 budget was presented by Thelma Hopwood. The treasurer’s report was accepted and filed for audit.  Joyce Cannon moved that the 2009-2010 budget be approved.  Joan Criswell seconded the motion and the MOTION PASSED.  Following the offering, Joan Leitzen led in prayer.

Ruth Olsen was unable to be present, but she had sent Love Gift Certificates which were given to every church that participated in Love Gift in 2008.  Joyce Cannon reported  that $854.93 had been given to our Area Project for Friendship House.  She dedicated our gifts to that project and led in prayer. She also reported that $1308.93 has been given by Area III for the Region Project which is “Break the Chains.”  The new Area project for 2009-2010 will be the Campus Ministries at ISU and U of I.  The goal is $2000, with $1000 going to ISU and $1000 going to the U of I.

Under Unfinished Business, Joan thanked the outgoing officers, Ruth Olsen, Anita Greenwell and Joyce Topping for their work.  Thelma Hopwood asked that churches get their money in to her if they have not done so yet.  Karen Dainty spoke about the “She Reads” program and AB Women’s Ministries Chat Rooms.  Dorothy Middleton thanked the churches who have worked on White Cross and reminded them to get their reports in.  Doris Kaisner reported on our Special Interest Missionaries, Rev. Kihomi & Rev. Dr. Mabudiga Nzunga.  He has been very sick with a bad tooth, and they also have been unable to get back to the USA to contact churches for the funding they need to carry on their work in Haiti. She asked us to be in prayer for them.  Joan Leitzen encouraged our attendance at the GRR Women’s Ministries Retreat at Lake Williamson as she told about the various things that have been planned for that retreat.

Under New Business, the report of the nominating committee was read by Joan Leitzen.  The names presented for election were: Linda Ricks, Associate for Love Gift; Doris Kaisner, Coordinator of Church & Community Ministries; and Carolyn Ihnken, Secretary   & Associate for Communications.  Joyce Cannon moved that the nominating ballot become the elective ballot.  Dorothy Middleton seconded the motion.  MOTION PASSED.  Two corrections to the current directory were given:  Sheila Morath’s phone should be 309-426-1686 and the U of I campus ministry 217-344-0484.
