Team It !
"Gear Up" . . .
Have you ever had the experience while you were driving of trying to increase your speed, but the more you press on the gas pedal, the more noise you hear but the car seems to resist going faster? You quickly study what is going on thinking of likely causes. Then you look down and find that you have not shifted up to "Drive." You had put the car in 2nd or 3rd gear when you started out. Once you shift into "Drive" you hear less engine noise (fewer rpms) and now the car zooms you along with less resistance.
Starting into any new ministry and depending upon one main person to implement and maintain that ministry is like never "gearing" up. Here are the immediate or at least eventual causes of the resistance that you will feel and hear!
- Burn-out vs. more sharing the load
- Territorialism vs. no one person comes to "possess" & "defend" ownership
- Sameness - there is more creativity in the group
- Over-functioning - out of need, real or perceived
- Lack of Fruit from that particular ministry - more output vs all input
- Exclusion of talented "seekers" and gifted members - ministry belongs to the whole of the church
